Please join us for an enjoyable and educational beach walk Saturday, December 2nd, along the beach from the public access at the Bacara resort to the bluffs on the Naples property. Dr. Mike McGinnis, Acting Director of UCSB's Ocean and Coastal Policy Center, author of Bioregionalism (Routledge, 1999), and principal consultant for Bioregional Planning Consultants, will host the hike and describe the sensitive and threatened nature of the Naples ecology.
The hike will leave from the Public Access parking lot at Haskell's Beach adjoining the Bacara Resort at 1:00 PM sharp. Please arrive by 12:45. The walk is about 2 miles one way and crosses a rocky point that will be mostly dry on this day due to a minus low tide. Allow three hours to leisurely complete the walk. Bring a pair of old beach shoes (for the rocky point crossing and the occasional beach tar), a sunhat, and any water or snacks needed for the walk. No dogs are allowed in order to protect the seal rookery located on the hike to the Naples property. Please car pool if possible. In case of rain, the hike will be held the next day, December 3rd at the same time and place.
Directions: from Santa Barbara take Highway 101 North and exit at Winchester Canyon. Cross over Highway 101 on the overpass (left turn) which then becomes Hollister avenue. At Hollister, take an immediate right at the Sandpiper Golf course and continue west towards the Bacara Resort. Before reaching the Bacara Resort, at the bottom of a small hill, turn left into the signed Public Access parking lot.
Hope to see you!
